Red-Lips-Valentines

With Valentine’s day around the corner, red is definitely the color-of-the-moment. We are loving the cherry red lips that are popping up on the red carpet and runway. This skin-brightening shade works on most skin tones and can be worn day or night.

Here are 4 tips for wearing a red lip:

  1. Just Bitten.  If you are a red lip newbie, start out with a sheer stain or balm.  Just a hint of pigment will give you the I-just-bit-into-a-cherry look.  Try Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm in Romantic.
  2. Day or Night.  Choose a lipstick that can be dressed-up or down like Avon Ultra Rich Lipstick in Cherry Jubilee. This versatile color can look minimal when paired with a sweep of blush and mascara or full-out glam with a sultry grey metallic eye.
  3. Go Nude.  Pencil, that is!  Avoid altering the color of your red by using a lip pencil that is neutral.  Outline lips to prevent feathering and fill in entire lip to keep lip color on longer.
  4. Try it on. Testing lip color in-store can be a little intimidating and unsanitary.  Visit a makeup counter during off-peak hours.  A good sales person will set you in the right direction and then allow you room to try on different shades.  Always use sanitary practices—spray alcohol on the lipstick tip and wipe off top layer on a tissue (any reputable counter should have alcohol on hand).  Use a counter lip brush (sanitized with alcohol) or bring your own accent brush to apply lip stick from the tube.  The bright pigment will stain your lips, so after wiping lips clean with a tissue, blot loose powder over them with a makeup sponge to neutralize your lip before applying a new pigment.
